How to set an annual revenue goal

Create a yearly revenue target and track attainment against recognized revenue.

Open in SPLX OS

When Northwoods Outfitters kicked off their 2026 planning cycle, their operations lead Priya needed a single number the whole team could rally around: a revenue target for the year. Setting an annual goal in SPLX OS takes under two minutes — and the system computes attainment automatically as revenue entries are recorded throughout the year.

Before you start

  • The Finance module must be enabled for your workspace. Go to Settings → Modules and confirm Finance is toggled on. Only admins and owners can enable modules.
  • All Finance pages are gated by the module — if the module is off, navigating to /finance/goals shows an access-denied message rather than the goals list.
  • Creating revenue goals requires admin or owner role. Members and viewers can view goals but cannot create, edit, or delete them.

Step 1: Open the Revenue Goals page

Click Finance in the left sidebar. The Finance section redirects to the dashboard; from there click Revenue Goals in the Finance sub-navigation, or navigate directly to /finance/goals.

The page shows three tabs: Monthly, Quarterly, and Annual. All three are scoped to the current calendar year.

Step 2: Switch to the Annual tab

Click the Annual tab. If no annual goal exists yet for this year, you'll see an empty state with a New goal button.

Step 3: Create the goal

Click New goal (top-right, or in the empty state). A dialog opens with four fields:

Field What to enter
Frequency Select Annual
Period Enter the year: e.g. 2026
Target amount Enter your annual revenue target in dollars and cents
Notes (optional) Any context — for example, "Based on Q4 2025 run rate plus 15% growth"

For Northwoods Outfitters, Priya entered a target of $312,000 for 2026, reflecting their goal to grow from $271,000 the prior year.

Click Create goal. The dialog closes and the new goal appears in the Annual tab.

Step 4: Review what you created

The goal row shows:

  • Period — 2026 (or whichever year you entered)
  • Target — the amount you set
  • Actual — computed automatically by summing all recognized revenue entries that fall between January 1 and December 31 of that year. A Computed badge confirms the figure came from live data.
  • Attainment — a progress bar and percentage (actual ÷ target × 100)

The actual figure updates in real time as new revenue entries are added or their status changes. No manual refresh is needed.

What comes next

  • Add monthly goals to track progress month by month — see How to log monthly revenue figures.
  • If you have historical revenue data where the computed actual is incorrect, an admin can override it from the goal detail page (click the period to open it, then use Override actual).
  • The Monthly goal progress KPI tile on the Finance dashboard shows attainment for the current month — keep monthly goals set so that tile always reflects where you stand.
