Performance check-ins in SPLX OS are structured records attached to a person's profile. They capture what went well, areas for growth, goals for the next period, and an optional star rating. Each check-in is tied to a quarter, so you build a full history over time.
Before you start
You need admin role to create check-ins for other people. Members can create check-ins for themselves (self-reviews). The People module must be enabled.
Step 1: Open the person's profile
Go to People → Directory at /people/directory and click the card for the team member you're reviewing. Their profile opens at /people/directory/<userId>.
Click the Check-ins tab.
Step 2: Create a new check-in
Click + Add check-in. A form opens inline with the following fields:
| Field | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Quarter | Yes | Format YYYY-Q1 through YYYY-Q4, e.g. 2026-Q2 |
| Reviewer | Yes | Any person in the directory. Admins select a reviewer; self-reviews set the reviewer to yourself |
| What went well | No | Free text |
| Areas for improvement | No | Free text |
| Goals for next period | No | Free text |
| Rating | No | 1–5 stars |
Fill in the fields from your notes. The Reviewer field is required — submitting without one shows a validation message rather than saving.
Diego at Bayou & Co. runs quarterly check-ins the week after each quarter closes. He pre-fills the quarter, selects himself as reviewer, and jots notes directly from the 1-on-1 conversation. The structured format means he can compare Q1 goals to Q2 outcomes without hunting through meeting notes.
Step 3: Save the check-in
Click Save check-in. The new record appears at the top of the Check-ins tab, sorted newest first. Each card shows the quarter label, reviewer name, star rating, and collapsible sections for the three text fields.
Step 4: Edit a check-in
Only the original reviewer or an admin can edit a check-in after creation. Click the Edit button on the check-in card to reopen the form.
Known limitation: The rating field in the edit dialog does not pre-populate the existing rating value. If you save without selecting a rating, the stored rating will be cleared. Re-select the rating before saving to preserve it.
Visibility rules
- Admins see all check-ins for all profiles.
- Non-admins see only their own check-ins. Viewing another person's Check-ins tab while not an admin shows an empty state — this does not mean check-ins are absent, just that you don't have access to them.
What to do next
After a few quarters of check-ins, consider adding a Role Fit Review to capture a broader accountability assessment. Role fit reviews appear on the Role Fit tab of the person's profile (visible to admins only). From that tab, click + New review to get started.
